Fort Scratchley occupies a commanding position guarding the entrance to the Hunter River, arguably one of Newcastle's most spectacular vantage points.

Fort Scratchley is located in Newcastle East and has spectacular views over Nobbys Beach and the Hunter River.

Opening Hours

The Fort Scratchley Historic Site is open six days a week, 10am to 4pm (closed Tuesdays). General admission to Fort Scratchley is free.

Accessibility

Fort Scratchley Historic Site can be accessed by people with a range of mobility issues but it should be noted that there is uneven ground on site.

Artillery Store

We offer a range of Fort Scratchley souvenirs from our Artillery Store on location.

Time Gun Firings

The 1pm time gun fires every day the Fort is open, subject to weather.
