The Awabakal and Worimi peoples are acknowledged by Council as the traditional custodians of the land and waters of Newcastle
Council has demonstrated its commitment to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples through the signing of A Commitment by City Of Newcastle To Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of The City of Newcastle in 1998.
Council further demonstrated its commitment to the reconciliation process and social justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Newcastle LGA by endorsing the Aboriginal Employment Strategy (AES) 2018 – 2021.
These documents form part of the tiered structure of strategies that align with the legislative Integrated Planning and Reporting framework.
