As the 'green heart' of Newcastle, Blackbutt Reserve has an important role to play in supporting the community's vision of a smart, liveable and sustainable city. It is a place where we 'celebrate our unique city and protect our natural assets' (Newcastle 2030).
More than 50 years after opening, Blackbutt Reserve remains one of the city's top tourist attractions. But it holds an even more special place in the hearts of locals.
Upgrading Blackbutt Reserve is one of City of Newcastle's priority projects. We have recently revamped exhibits, picnic shelters, a wildlife arena and other new facilities among recent improvements.
We have also installed an exciting adventure playground at Richley Reserve. These new features will help to ensure Blackbutt Reserve remains a must-see destination for many years to come.
A brief overview of what Blackbutt is and what we are working towards.
